About the Faculty

Pharmacy is a field of science that deals with the development, validation, manufacture, manipulation, distribution and management of drugs and other health-related chemical/ biochemical materials. There are well over fifty specializations (nuclear pharmacy inclusive) under this field of science. Every student who wishes to study pharmacy in Nigeria is expected to possess good knowledge of and have passed pre-degree subjects/courses such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and English language.

The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Bayelsa Medical University was conceived in 2018 and processes necessary for its setup commenced in the same year. Departments within the Faculty currently include Clinical Pharmacy, Microbiology, Pharmacology/Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics/Industrial Pharmacy and Pharmacognosy. 

The philosophy of the Pharmacy program is to produce well-educated graduates and trained professionals for a wide range of scientific, professional and managerial functions, which best serve the needs of the society with sufficient adaptability to meet the demands of a changing health care delivery system.
