About the Program
The Bachelor/Doctor of Physiotherapy is a professional five-year degree program designed to equip students with the knowledge, clinical skills, and ethical foundation necessary to assess, diagnose, treat, and prevent movement-related disorders. This program prepares graduates to promote physical health, restore function, and improve the quality of life of individuals across the lifespan.
Students will receive extensive training in anatomy, biomechanics, neuroscience, kinesiology, and therapeutic exercise. They will also gain hands-on experience through practical sessions, clinical postings, and supervised internships in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and community health settings.
The program emphasizes evidence-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, and patient-centered care. It prepares graduates to work in a wide range of clinical, educational, sports, occupational, and research environments, both within Nigeria and internationally.
Program Objectives
The program aims to train competent, compassionate, and ethical physiotherapists who can meet the dynamic demands of modern rehabilitation and healthcare systems.
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Assess and diagnose patients with neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory dysfunctions
- Design and implement individualized physiotherapy treatment plans
- Use manual therapy, electrotherapy, and therapeutic exercise for rehabilitation
- Promote health and prevent disability through education and early intervention
- Work as part of interdisciplinary teams in diverse healthcare settings
- Conduct physiotherapy research and contribute to health policy and development
Graduates will emerge with:
- Strong foundation in human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and biomechanics
- Proficiency in various physiotherapy techniques and technologies
- Clinical experience across hospitals, rehab centers, and primary healthcare settings

Curriculum
The curriculum follows the National Universities Commission (NUC) CCMAS standards for physiotherapy education. It blends academic rigour with hands-on training across various clinical specialties.
Admission Criteria
UTME Entry (5 Years Programme)
To qualify for admission through UTME, candidates must:
- Present credits in five (5) O'Level subjects (WAEC/NECO/NABTEB) at not more than two sittings, including:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Meet all other departmental and faculty requirements
Direct Entry (4-Year Programme for BPT / 5-Year for DPT)
Candidates may gain admission through:
- A'Level/JUPEB with a minimum of 9 points in:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- OND/HND in Physiotherapy, Physical Rehabilitation, or related health sciences with at least Upper Credit
- Registered Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) certification with relevant experience
- All Direct Entry candidates must also possess the five O’Level credits as specified for UTME entry
Additional Requirements:
- Candidates must be at least 16 years old by the admission year
- Medical fitness certification is required upon admission
- All submitted credentials are subject to verification
