Biography

Dr. Marie-Thérèse Teibowei [MNIM, FIHSN, MNIIA, FIPMA, FCAI] is the Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Public Relations Officer, and Senior Lecturer at Bayelsa Medical University (BMU).

Born on January 20, 1976, she is a multilingual scholar with expertise in Biomedical Translation, French, Strategic Communication, and International Studies. She holds a Ph.D. in French & International Studies, an M.A. in Translation (English and French), a B.Sc. in Journalism, Mass Communication and Gender Studies, and is pursuing an MPH.

Achievements

Dr. Teibowei has played pioneering roles in institution building and academic innovation. She facilitated the establishment of the International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (2015), co-founded the School of Foundation Studies at the University of Africa, Toru-Orua, and was part of the pioneer management team that set up Bayelsa Medical University.

She established Nigeria’s first Institute of Foreign Languages and Biomedical Translation (2019–2023) and initiated the Annual French Competition for secondary schools in Bayelsa State. She is widely published, with books and journal articles on language, biomedical translation, and communication.

Dr. Teibowei has also represented BMU and Bayelsa State at international summits, including the United Nations Climate Conferences, and has received recognition for her leadership in communication, academia, and development initiatives.

She is a fellow and member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM), Nigerian Institute of Translators and Interpreters (NITI), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), World Association of Academic Doctors (WAAD), and the Institute of Health Service Administrators of Nigeria (IHSAN).
